Automation Technician

SUMMARY: The Automation Technician position is technical career employment in Tyson Foods, Incorporated. This position requires proficiency in multiple skill clusters including electricity and electronics, fluid power, mechanical systems, and manufacturing processes. The Automation Technician will perform high-level machine and systems troubleshooting and repair, assist engineering and plant staff with the specification, installation, and modification of integrated systems, and provide technical support for all phases of the operation.

REQUIREMENTS: Education: Training beyond high school including either: an Associate (A.S.) degree in Electronics Technology (or closely related technical field), or a combination of education and experience which may include Skilled Trades programs or military training. Experience: Minimum of 4 years automation experience and/or industrial maintenance experience; proven good safety and attendance record along with strong interpersonal skills. Computer Skills: Competent in Windows-based software, such as Microsoft Excel and Word. Strong skills in document organization, the use of technical materials, and research techniques. Must either be proficient or become proficient in SAP Maintenance. (If installed at the facility.) Communication Skills: High level verbal communications, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. The ability to function effectively in a team environment, and interact productively with all levels of management and operations personnel. Certification: Certifications in any technical field or techniques is a plus. Travel: Minimum of 1-5 trips per year outside of assigned location. The successful  candidate will possess the following skills: Demonstrated skills in the area of AC/DC circuits, industrial electrical systems, and required experience in electrical safety and lockout/tag out processes and procedures; Knowledge in the theory and application of electronic devices, such as industrial semiconductors, solid-state drives and industrial control systems; Experience in the troubleshooting and operation of PLC systems and microprocessors; Ability to utilize computer hardware and Windows-based software in the creation and management of useful information; Working knowledge and skills in tools and components used in maintenance and repair of mechanical systems such as bearings, gears, clutches, belts, and seals; and Ability to troubleshoot and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic components and systems.

o   To maintain and promote the Tyson safety culture

o   Receive training as required

o   Perform various positions as required/assigned

o   Assist maintenance supervisor with personnel and equipment

o   Assign maintenance techs to equipment during process periods

o   Assist with preventative maintenance  and breakdowns

o   Train maintenance techs on equipment

o   Utilize computer based PM program to track equipment maintenance

o   Fill in for absenteeism or assisting in other areas of plant


This position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing all equipment and company assets while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures.


Maintain the plant electrical distribution systems to include: motor control centers, motor starter panels, field control panels, low voltage panels, local control panels, scale panels rigid conduits, flexible conduits, wire way and other various devices of electrical distribution.Must be knowledgeable in NEC, NFPA 70 and 70E regulations.Must be able to read and accurately interpret electrical data sheets, schematics, ladder logic, function block, technical data books and other various illustrations of control and electrical distribution. Must be willing to lift 70 lbs. periodically throughout the shift on a daily basis and be willing to work on your feet for a period of 12 hours. Must be willing to complete all required training for thejob.
